Navigate through the Talkeetna Mountains, where alpine lakes and vibrant tundra set the stage. Travel at a mindful pace, allowing yourself to attune to the rhythms of nature and reconnect with your own inner landscape.

Throughout the adventure, you'll have the opportunity to re-examine where you are in life and where you want to be. Each day offers moments to pause, reflect, amidst serene mountain meadows, glacial streams, and breathtaking vistas punctuated with a journey that challenges your endurance and proves your stamina.

Led by an experienced, all-women team with deep knowledge of wilderness skills, backcountry travel, and personal growth facilitation, this retreat nurtures your confidence, resilience, and a renewed sense of connection to yourself, to the natural world, and the people around you. 

This Talkeetna Mountains adventure is designed to leave you invigorated by the absence of technology, inspired by challenges overcome and grounded in your ability to create the life you want.

"Margaret Stern is a force of nature and the gold standard in the guiding world. I first experienced her expertise as a guest in the Talkeetna Mountains, where we were dropped by a floatplane at a remote alpine lake. Margaret had meticulously studied and scouted our trekking route, which traversed stunning mountain valleys, boulder fields, alpine tundra, steep scree, and high mountain passes. When an abnormal amount of rain slammed our trip and severely restricted visibility, Margaret met the challenge head-on, keeping safety the absolute priority. "Before I worked with Shannon, I didn’t think what I wanted to do was possible. I was restraining myself and not allowing myself to tune in to what I wanted. The world felt small to me. I wasn’t allowing myself to figure out what I wanted because I didn’t think I could have it. I had a belief I couldn’t go after what I wanted. Now I have the skills to recognize and identify it, let go of my picture of how things should go and do the ongoing work of identifying what I truly want. 

Shannon made it safe for me to explore the world. I knew that, no matter what happens, I have this person who can help me figure out what to do with this shitty mess I just made. If something I try doesn't go well, it’s okay. I have this person I can talk it over with. I felt like I could connect with my inner child and that was so good for me because I really needed to connect with that part of me to figure out what I really wanted. I did not feel embarrassed when we did visualization exercises and something “weird” came up. I felt safe to find myself.

Hiking in the backcountry will present you with ample opportunities that will challenge your personal “status quo” and require you to be calm and collected so you can navigate the path in front of you. 
     

  • Learn about area plants and animals – Our journeys through the Talkeetna Mountains offer more than breathtaking landscapes. Learn about local plants and animals, their adaptations, and the interconnectedness of the ecosystem, while reflecting on your own patterns, strengths, and growth. Guided exercises and daily prompts are woven throughout the experience, helping you draw insights from nature and apply them to your personal journey. 
     

  • Build Community – Connection built on the trail and over meals thoughtfully prepared by talented local women chefs. Delicious whether in Talkeetna or on the trail, each meal provides the fuel you need while offering a taste of local flavor and care.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Arrive

  • Arrive in Talkeetna, meet your fellow guides and travelers over a home-made, local Alaskan dinner. Explore your accomodations at Chanterelle Chalet and get settled in. 
     

Day 2 - Prepare

  • Enjoy a continental breakfast, set your intention for the trip with Shannon, go through your gear with Margaret, take a "yoga for backpacking" class from Diane Zeigner in her woodland yurt studio. Then enjoy dinner together, and rest up for the journey ahead.

Day 3 - Launch

  • Wake up early and head to the heliport, meet your pilot, and get briefed on helicopter safety. Then lift off into the Talkeetna Mountains, take in the majestic view, and begin your adventure. 
     

Day 4 - Immerse

  • After coffee and breakfast, start navigate off trail - true Alaska-style hiking. Get intimate with the raw beauty of the Alaskan landscape. No phones, no to-do list, just reconnecting with your wild self.

 

Day 5 - Imagine

  • Spend the day traveling uncharted paths, sparking your creativity so you can reignite the dreams you left buried long ago. Learn the skill of navigating without trails. Take turns leading, reading the landscape, and course correcting.
     

Day 6 - Emerge

  •  Wake up in the wilderness and capture your final insights. Hike up to see if mother nature will grant you a view of Denali and the Alaska Range before getting a literal big picture perspective during your helicopter flight back to our Talkeetna home base. End the day telling stories and reveling in the adventure together over dinner.

Day 7 - Integrate

  • Today you'll clarify what you've learned, create the plans to make the life you want actually happen. Knowing "what" you want is the first step. Integration is how you bring your idea into reality. The afternoon is yours, you can take a hike, join a yoga class, book a massage, spend time together or alone. End with a full celebration dinner catered in house.
     

Day 8 - Start

  • Spend a final morning together securing your connections before you start a brand new adventure. One that puts you in the driver' seat, on the path to creating the life you really want.

  • You have physical limitation that would prevent you from hiking, carrying a load, sleeping in a tent on the ground, or flying in a small airplane or helicopter.
