The Kolbe A is fundamentally different from other personality assessments.

What makes the Kolbe A different is what it measures. Most assessments measure your IQ or your social style. The Kolbe A measures your inborn instinct for taking action and solving problems. How you do what you do.

And since solving problems and taking action is at the heart of what we do at work, the Kolbe A is the best predictor of your success and fulfillment in a career.

ABOUT SHANNON
Shannon

Hey there!

I’m Shannon Post and I’m a career coach—but not your conventional blue-suit-and-tie career coach. I believe loving your work is a rebellion that will change the world.

What I know is, if you hate your job right now, it isn’t your fault. You simply were raised in a culture that didn’t teach you how to find the work you love. The good news is you have the power to change that. This is a skill you can learn.

I can also tell you that you're not alone. I searched for the work I was meant to do for well over a decade. I’ve had what on paper were “dream jobs.”  I was a professional classical singer performing on the most famous stages in New York City. I was a dog musher for a prominent Iditarod racer in Alaska. And I was a top senior IT executive leading technology and geospatial divisions.

In each case, I had “made it.” I had succeeded in society’s eyes but none of the jobs felt like me. I wasn’t fulfilled, I wasn’t fully using my natural talents (mostly because I didn’t understand what they were) and I wasn’t making the kind of impact I wanted to make in the world.

I’d tried to find the perfect career so many times without success that I thought something was seriously wrong with me. Like maybe I wasn’t allowed to have a career I loved and felt passionate about. Or maybe having a career I was naturally good at was just a pipe dream.

If you can relate, you need to know that it’s not you. It’s the box you’re trying to fit yourself into. That box, the traditional career path, doesn’t work for everyone—and that’s okay. There is fulfilling work out there that fits you and your personality like a glove. And it’s my goal to help you find it.

My work is informed by my experience building careers in vastly different industries as well as my studies at the University of Montana, the University of Virginia and Stanford University.

But the thing I’m most proud of is that, against all odds, the life I have now is the dream I had long ago. Alaska. Based in Talkeetna under the shadow of Denali and the Alaska Range. The ability to make a tangible impact in people’s daily lives and improve the world around me. Alaska is breathtaking, and I am indebted to the Denaʼina Ełnena [dənʌʔɪnʌ] and their traditional territory where I now get to live and work.

I’m certified by Kathy Kolbe, the creator of the Kolbe A™ Index and a leading authority on human instinct, and Dr. Martha Beck, a Harvard-educated sociologist specializing in human behavior.

My Kolbe index is 3-2-10-4. So I’m an innovator. I had a boss who said he never quite knew what I was up to, but the results always broke the barriers of what he thought was possible and changed the world. He wasn’t wrong.

Now I want to break the barriers of what you think is possible and help you change your world and the world of everyone around you.

What People Say About the Kolbe A Deep Dive

For the first time I have a non-judgemental understanding of my functionality. What I thought, or was taught, was a weakness is actually a strength and has helped me realize the value that I contribute. It's genuinely given me self-confidence. You have no idea how it's positively impacted my life.

This is an experience I wholeheartedly believe that everyone should have. It will help you understand yourself better and grow as a person.

What you helped me to see through the Kolbe test was extremely enlightening. It really helped me to understand myself and how my personality intimately coincides with the services I provide.

I think for any entrepreneur this knowledge is an incredible asset to having a higher level of achievement that they could have ever imagined to themselves, prior to having this kind of wisdom.

Frequently Asked Questions

But isn’t hard work the best predictor of success?

While a balanced work ethic is important, the fact is, our unconscious mind drives the majority of our behaviors. Stanford University professor Baba Shiv says that 90% to 95% of our decisions are influenced at the unconscious, or instinctual, level. That means our instincts are by far the largest driver of our behavior. If you could harness something that influenced 90 to 95% of your success, would you do it? The Kolbe A can help you do just that.

What if I don’t have any natural talents?

The tricky thing about natural strengths is that you usually don’t realize you have them. They come so naturally to you, that you think they’re normal and that everyone has the same abilities you do, so you think they aren’t worth getting paid for (which is not true). They’re tough to see because you didn’t learn them or practice them. You were born with them and they happen at an unconscious level. It’s helpful to have a Kolbe Certified Professional help you really understand your strengths so you can clearly identify and use them to decide the most fulfilling course of action for your future.

What is it like to have a session with you?

In a Kolbe A™ Deep Dive, you and I will spend an hour and a half digging into your specific result and how you can best apply it to your life. You can bring questions and I can help you get clarity on any career decisions you’re making. It’s a great way to weed out career options or double check that you’re headed in the right direction before you spend thousands of dollars on a degree, start a new company or move yourself across the country for a new job. Oh, and we usually laugh a lot.

Once you sign up, you'll be directed to a page to schedule your appointment. Then I'll send you your unique test code and instructions to take the assessment. You’ll take the Kolbe A™ in the comfort of your own home, whenever it works best for you. The assessment itself takes about 20 minutes to complete and you'll receive a full report as soon as you finish the questions. Then you and I will meet and if you have follow up questions after our session you can reach out to me by email and I'll be happy to answer.

How reliable is this? Isn’t it just like astrology?

While I believe any avenue of self reflection that helps you gain insight and improve your life is valuable, the Kolbe A is fundamentally different from any other assessment on the market. First, the Kolbe measures your instinct for taking action. We know instincts are scientifically proven to exist in human beings. It's the same part of your mind as your fight/flight instinct or your instinctive drive to reproduce, bond and stay in community.

Another important distinction between this and other personality assessments is that the Kolbe A has a very high test-retest rate, which is rare for personal assessments. A test-retest rate measures the reliability of any assessment. This means, if you take it now and in 20 years, your result is statistically likely to be the same.

One study done in 2006, showed that 92 to 97% of Kolbe A Index results remained consistent over time, even after being retaken 10 to 15 years later.  What this means is that you don’t need to keep taking it every few years and you can plan your future based on its results with confidence.

What if I don't want to be labeled or put in a box?

The Kolbe A only reveals your strengths. It doesn’t tell you what you can and cannot do. My clients have found the results to be freeing and liberating, allowing them to be their true selves and achieve their goals and dreams.

Is this gene theory or racehorse theory?

Absolutely not. I unequivocally work against biased philosophies of superiority and oppression. Kolbe Corp is also committed to the promise of equality and justice for all. Research shows that the Kolbe A™ Index shows no statistical bias based on race, national origin, gender, age or disability and meets all the criteria of the EEOC guidelines in the U.S., unlike IQ tests and other common personality assessments that can be skewed by factors such as access to resources, formal education and other cultural or economic conditions. The goal of the Kolbe A is to reveal everyone’s natural talents so we can create a better world together.
